Hi, I’m Ale la doula
I’m from El Salvador and I used to be an Engineer with two master’s degrees, but now I am a certified birth doula in Montreal, and a "student of life" passionate about the human body and women’s strength.
My background in engineering has been a great tool for understanding physiological birth and all the scenarios that may need medical interventions. You can blame it on my master’s degree in Health & Safety, or maybe on my dissertation on Human Behaviour in Emergencies, or maybe on the fact that I really wanted to be a doctor when I was a little girl, but that’s another story for another blog.
Back in 2019, after a huge existential crisis right before COVID, I decided to shift my engineering path. It may sound like a cliché, but for me, it started with yoga (and therapy). Since then, I have been studying yoga with my teachers back home, Mexico, and India. Eventually, I became a teacher myself, sharing the yoga practice across different countries, integrating movement, breath, but mostly introspection and self-awareness.
Now, I’m devoting my life to supporting women in their rebirth as mothers, because I was born through obstetric violence in the 90’s, and I know how trauma looks in a woman, in a family, and in a kid. My life is full of purpose now that I have made a life goal to not let another woman alone to experience what my mom and I did.
As your doula, you will see me merging both parts of my life paths:
1) The strategic mind of an engineer that will tell you and your partner all the details on medical procedures (pros and cons), and
2) The flowy brain part influenced by the rhythms of nature and yoga that I have practiced in India, Guatemala, Mexico, and Canada throughout my life journey.
Now, are you ready to tell me your story?
